Your OpportunityStantec is seeking qualified candidates for a Senior Water Resources Engineer for our Salt Lake City, Denver or Phoenix offices. In this technical leadership role you will lead and grow the water resources practice within the Mining, Minerals and Metals business line, mentoring the team and serving as a senior advisor to projects and clients worldwide.
YourKey Responsibilities
- Lead and/or advise on technical aspects of mining and mining infrastructure projects, business development, and proposal activities.
- Contribute to the development and execution of the water resources team’s technical practice and maintain Stantec’s quality standards through continuous improvement.
- Provide technical expertise and lead project delivery on a variety of projects, ensuring successful outcomes for clients and beneficiaries.
- Establish and grow productive, collaborative relationships internally and with priority clients.
- Participate in all phases of project management, including program development, budgeting, planning, design, pre‑construction, implementation, oversight, and closure.
- Lead, challenge, and inspire technical staff through engagement and communication, including coaching and mentoring young professionals.
- Follow safe work practices and adhere to company and client guidelines and policies.
- Support Stantec’s brand awareness through thought leadership and stakeholder engagement.
- Strong background in mine water management, mine closure, and feasibility studies for the mining industry.
- Experience planning, designing, and managing surface water infrastructure, integrating civil and geotechnical engineering concepts.
- Knowledge of state and federal water management regulations.
- Project management experience: detailed budgets, scope definition, scheduling, paperwork, and client interaction.
- Marketing and proposal preparation skills, including presentations.
- Understanding of CERCLA and RCRA processes for environmental projects.
- Ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex technical information.
- Strong personal leadership qualities: integrity, creativity, patience, tenacity, commitment.
- Team player with experience building and managing project teams.
- Strong business network in the United States and internationally.
- Fluency in English required; additional languages (Spanish, French, Portuguese) a plus.
- Willingness and ability to travel nationally and internationally for short‑duration assignments (1–2 weeks).
- 8–10 years of progressively responsible experience.
- Bachelor’s degree (Master’s preferred) in civil, environmental, or water resources engineering with emphasis in water management.
- Experience leading and developing teams for successful project execution.
- Subject‑matter expertise in mine water management.
- Professional Engineer registration preferred.
