DescriptionAt Burns & McDonnell, the Power global practice provides a multidisciplinary approach to power solutions from project financing, siting, and permitting to turnkey construction and startup. We cover the full breadth of renewable power generation technologies—from utility‑scale solar to battery storage, hydrogen, carbon capture, and nuclear plant services.
We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineer to work with project teams creating world‑class renewable power generation designs for new utility‑scale renewable projects. The Staff Civil Engineer works throughout the design and construction process, adapting civil plans according to budget constraints, design factors, and client needs.
Responsibilities- Perform civil design from the offering phase through design completion.
- Use AutoCAD Civil 3D and perform mass grading using road corridors, feature lines, surfaces, volume earthwork, and more.
- Apply strong knowledge of civil engineering design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures.
- Research local code guidelines and interpret information to create drawings and specifications that support permitting.
- Research and compile project‑related data, compile studies and reports, and write construction specifications.

- Lead stormwater modeling and BMP design; create SWPPP, hydrology/hydraulics studies, and road use reports.
- Perform calculations to confirm design intent and organize assumptions and methods for internal quality reviews.
- Prepare exhibits for permitting efforts with varying Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
- Coordinate with local AHJs on permitting requirements.
- Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science (BS) in Civil Engineering or a related degree from an ABET‑accredited program—OR—
- Bachelor of Science in Civil or Engineering Technology from an ABET program and successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam.
- Master of Science in Civil Engineering may substitute for one year of experience.
- Three years of civil engineering experience, consulting preferred.
- Successful completion of FE or EIT preferred.
- Strong knowledge of standard civil engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Methodical, analytical problem‑solving abilities and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
- Strong computer skills:
Microsoft Office Suite. - Proficiency in AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, Flo‑2D, HEC‑Ras, Flow Master, Culvert Master, and other hydraulic, hydrologic, pavement, and civil analysis programs.
- Strong attention to detail, facilitation,professional team building, collaboration, organization, and problem‑solving skills.
This job posting will remain open a minimum of 72 hours and on an ongoing basis until filled.
