Principal Process Engineer – Tucson, AZ (Hudbay Project Support)

DRA operates across all major mining regions with offices in Africa and the Middle East, North and South America, the USA, and Asia-Pacific.

We are currently seeking a Principal Process Engineer to join our growing team in Phoenix, AZ with site support responsibilities for our Hudbay Project in Tucson, AZ. This position plays a critical role in supervising, coordinating, and driving the successful execution of process engineering design activities across feasibility, EPCM, and EPC projects.

Responsibilities
  • Lead process engineering deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs, mass balances, and process equipment specifications.
  • Drive metallurgical evaluation and peer review of estimates, schedules, proposals, and designs.
  • Support and mentor process engineers and designers, ensuring alignment with industry standards and client requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise during commissioning, troubleshooting, and operations support.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, contractors, and clients to ensure integrated project execution.
  • Manage design mark-ups, redlines, and discipline sign-off for engineering deliverables.
  • Lead presentations and provide input for business development and proposals.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and statutory requirements in all process designs.
  • Maintain awareness of technical advances and innovation within mineral processing.
Qualifications & Requirements Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mineral Processing, Chemical, or Metallurgical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng. or PE) license, or eligibility for registration
Experience
  • 12+ years’ mineral processing/chemical plant operation experience, preferably in an EPCM environment.
  • 10+ years in consulting with strong technical knowledge in a multi-functional environment.
  • 5+ years demonstrated leadership and management experience in a multinational, cross-functional team.
  • Experience with Hudbay projects or similar large-scale mining projects advantageous.

Employment Type

Permanent – based in Phoenix, AZ, with regular site travel to Tucson, AZ.

Physical Requirements
  • May be required to stand, sit in a stationary position ~50% of the time, alternate between sitting and standing, push/pull, reach overhead or below shoulder level, kneel, squat, or stoop.
  • Occasionally lift and carry items such as files, documents, or small packages (10–20 pounds).
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and office equipment.
  • Close visual acuity to perform activities such as reading, analyzing data, and working on a computer.
