Graduate Engineer, Water Resources – Black & Veatch

The Opportunity

We are looking for a Water Resources Engineer to focus on stormwater planning and design, flood control, condition assessment of water assets, and water supply planning. As a Water Resources Engineer, you will provide world‑class planning and water resource services to support resilient communities and ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Hydrologic and hydraulic planning and design of stormwater and wet weather improvements, including open channels, storm sewer systems, stormwater detention/retention facilities, dams, levees, and reservoirs.
  • Coastal resilience studies and implementation projects.
  • Condition assessment and in‑field services of pipelines, dams, levees, reservoirs, and facilities.
  • Water supply planning that provides long‑term resilient supplies and mitigates climate change, regulatory uncertainty, aging infrastructure, and population growth/demand changes.
  • Planning and design of green infrastructure, low‑impact development, and sustainable watershed measures, including structural BMPs.
  • Erosion and sediment control planning and design, including SWPPP development.
  • Leveraging new technologies and approaches for stormwater and water quality planning with partners.
  • Technical work on watershed, ecosystem, fluvial geomorphology, limnology, modeling, ecological restoration, and ecosystem service benefits/values.
  • Scenario planning and implementation projects for integrated watershed management, nature‑based solutions, resilience strategies, and surface water management programs at local, regional, and national levels.
  • Climate change resilience planning and implementation efforts.
  • Mine tailing and effluent management projects.
  • MFL studies and mitigation projects for water bodies, streams, springs, and rivers across the region.
  • Partner with leaders and professionals to grow our Water Resources Planning, Asset Management, Infrastructure Systems, and Americas business.
  • Pursuit of strategic client opportunities and new services for existing clients.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A degree in Environmental or Civil Engineering.
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Proficiency with working and collaborating in virtual environments (MS Teams, Web Ex, Zoom).
  • Proficiency with the following software:
    Microsoft Office, GIS, AutoCAD, HEC‑RAS, HEC‑HMS, EPA/XP/PC‑SWMM, Info Works; capable of conducting site reconnaissance and remote investigations.
  • Experience in working with regulatory agencies and their permitting functions.
  • Experience leading project tasks and executing water resource studies and implementation projects that include watershed management, stream stabilization, ecological restoration, surface water management, water quality, operations, and optimization efforts.
Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree in engineering from a recognized accredited program in the United States or in your home country. All applicants must complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle records, as applicable.
