Position Overview

The University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix is seeking an outstanding academic leader to serve as the inaugural chair for the Department of Interdisciplinary Oncology (IDO). The Department of Interdisciplinary Oncology is being formed to serve as the academic home for basic and clinical research faculty at the College whose primary focus is cancer research. This unique departmental structure will foster bench research to bedside collaboration.

The ideal candidate will be dynamic and looking for an opportunity to implement a new vision to start and grow the department. This leadership position will provide strategic direction for all aspects of the education, bench research and translational research of the department while working closely with the University of Arizona Cancer Center, Banner MD Anderson, Banner - University Medical Center Phoenix and other clinical partners.

The IDO chair reports directly to the dean of the College of Medicine - Phoenix. The chair may have a dual reporting relationship with Banner MD Anderson for any clinical duties. The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in the Department of Interdisciplinary Oncology, actively participate in teaching, research and/or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of full professor.

The successful candidate will meet the requirements of a tenure‑track faculty according to the College and University guidelines.

• Track record of national distinction in teaching, patient care and clinical research in an academic department or comparable environment.
• Ability to develop and apply cutting edge oncology research and technologies to healthcare applications.
• Track record of national distinction in service as seen by participation national committee leadership in the Association of American Cancer Institutes (AACI), American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) or similar professional societies.
• Successful track record of recruitment and/or development of faculty, staff, trainees and students.
• Evidence of successful program building.
• Ability to build multi‑institutional collaborations.

• Must possess an MD or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.
• Be eligible for a University of Arizona academic appointment at the full professor level.
• Be board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) in Medical Oncology.
• Be eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Arizona.
• Be eligible for medical staff membership at Banner MD Anderson.
• Must have greater than 6 years of progressively complex administrative experience (e.g., program leader, center/section director, etc.) in an academic medical center setting.
