Purpose Statement

The job of Teacher – Elementary is to support the instructional process with the responsibility of supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with teachers, professional staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom issues; and responding to inquiries from parents or guardians regarding the instructional program and student progress.

Essential Functions
  • Administers developmental testing programs and/or subject specific assessments to evaluate student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
  • Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress and develops strategies for improvement and reinforcement of classroom goals at home.
  • Assesses student progress toward objectives and provides feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborates with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve overall student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
  • Counsels students to improve performance, health, problem‑solving techniques, and personal issues.
  • Demonstrates pedagogical approaches that engage learners and address individual student requirements.
  • Differentiates classroom work to provide instructional materials tailored to individualized learning within lesson plans.
  • Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and/or student workers to support an effective classroom program and address individual needs.
  • Facilitates student learning to achieve success in academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills through defined lesson plans.
  • Instructs students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitors students in various educational environments (classroom, playground, field trips, etc.) to ensure safety and positive learning experiences.
  • Organizes age‑appropriate indoor and outdoor activities to ensure student participation in learning activities.
  • Participates on PLC teams to review data and instructional practices.
  • Participates in staff, district, IEPs, 504s, and other meetings to convey and gather information required to perform functions.
  • Prepares written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Reports health and safety issues to the assigned administrator and appropriate agencies to maintain student safety and comply with regulations.
  • Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel.
  • Responds to inquiries from teachers, parents, administrators, etc., to resolve issues, provide information, and offer direction.
Other Functions
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Skills: Apply assessment instruments; operate standard office equipment and software; teach Arizona State–recognized standards; prepare and maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge: Algebra and/or geometry; technical information reading; document composition; facilitate group discussions; analyze situations to define issues. Knowledge of policies, regulations, age‑appropriate activities, lesson plan requirements, child development stages, and behavioral management strategies.
  • Abilities: Schedule activities, meetings, and events; gather, collate, and classify data; use job‑related equipment. Flexibility to work with others, adapt to changing priorities, maintain confidentiality, exhibit tact and patience, and work flexible hours.

Responsibilities: Work under limited supervision using standardized practices; direct other persons within a small work unit; utilize resources from other work units to perform job functions.
