Job Summary

The Political Science faculty member will provide instruction in political science courses to a broad and multifaceted student population while contributing to Phoenix College’s learning-centered environment. The faculty member will engage students and motivate student success while teaching classes in a variety of modalities using a variety of instruction and assessment methods and technologies. The faculty member will occasionally supervise and mentor students in independent study projects.

The faculty member will also provide discipline-related leadership in the area of political science, including but not limited to curriculum development, adjunct instructor coordination, evaluation, and mentorship. This position begins in August 2026.

Essential Functions
  • Teach a variety of undergraduate political science courses to a multifaceted student population. Teaching responsibilities include (a) create and distribute course syllabi which satisfy District content requirements; (b) create and deliver meaningful learning activities designed to help students successfully master course content; (c) occasionally supervise and mentor students in independent study projects; (d) be present for all scheduled class meetings; (e) maintain academic support hours to help and advise students;

    (f) assess student performance on learning activities and provide timely feedback to support learning; and (g) submit final letter grades by stated College due dates.
  • Provide course leadership in the area of political science, including but not limited to (a) developing, revising, and maintaining political science course curriculum; (b) working with the department chair to schedule political science course offerings; and (b) coordinate, evaluate, and mentor adjunct instructors in political science.
  • Engage in the academic life of the College by participating in departmental and campus activities. These activities include (a) support of and engagement with faculty colleagues; (b) attendance at department meetings; (c) participation in campus activities; and (d) service on one or more College committees.
Minimum Qualifications

Political Science | Academic

A graduate degree is required. A faculty may qualify with any of the following:

  • Master’s degree or higher in the teaching field OR
  • Master’s degree or higher in any field with 18 graduate credit hours
