Adjunct English Composition

POSITION SUMMARY

This is an Adjunct faculty position directly reports to the Chair of the Science Department and the Dean and Assistant of the Nursing Program Dean of RN Program. Plans, teaches, directs, and supervises all student learning experiences in the classroom following the curriculum of the college approved by the Accreditation Bureau.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

An English teacher is responsible for ensuring that students learn proper grammar, writing, and reading comprehension. They are responsible for creating lesson plans that will teach students the skills they need. A few of the main duties of an English teacher are answering student questions, grading student tests and essays, tracking student progress, and teaching students the importance of English.

• Analyze types of writing, audiences and purposes.

• Apply prewriting strategies such as brainstorming, idea mapping and outlining to plan writing tasks.

• Employ techniques, such as observing, recording, summarizing, analyzing, classifying, interpreting, comparing, defining, arguing and/or instructing for effective writing.

• Examine student and professional writing for rhetorical elements, strengths and weaknesses.

• Write unified essays whose central ideas are expressed by clear thesis statements and topic sentences.

• Provide support for thesis statements and topic sentences through the use of relevant details, examples, reasons, facts, data and quotations.

• Demonstrate appropriate writing competencies in advancing, addressing and expressing ideas within academic disciplines.

• Evaluate writing through revising, editing and proofreading effectively to achieve coherence and avoid grammatical errors.
