TOA-Special Education Instructional Coach

Length of Work Yr: 225 contract days

Salary Range: $57,672 + ;
Placement based on education and experience

SUMMARY

The Special Education Instructional Coach provides ongoing mentorship, guidance, and support to special and general education instructional personnel. This includes modeling effective teaching strategies for students with disabilities; assisting general and special education teachers with increasing efficacy in the classroom so that students improve in their academic performance; establishing inclusive environments; and guiding the delivery of services to special education students and development of quality IEPs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coaches teachers on providing Specially Designed Instruction across a continuum of service delivery models
  • Leads district-wide work around inclusive practices and supporting both general and special education teachers with all aspects of IEP implementation
  • Develops creative solutions to maximize a safe and productive learning environment which builds upon student strengths to target student skills deficits
  • Supports teachers/paraprofessionals with ensuring access for students with disabilities, such as through modification/adaptation of curriculum/instructional strategies, development and implementation of behavioral interventions; and modifications to the classroom environment.
  • Task analyzes and translates lessons into developmentally appropriate learning experiences for ALL students
  • Delivers ongoing professional development to stakeholder groups on special education policy, procedures, IEP development, and instructional best practices related to special education.
  • Effectively utilizes assistive technologies to support access and IEP implementation
  • Utilizes data to drive instructional decisions and make appropriate adjustments
  • Provides mentoring for new special education teachers
  • Leverages examples of highly-effective practices in special education across the district to build collaboration between schools
  • Maintains and supports federal, state and district rules, regulations and policies at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
  • Arizona Teaching Certificate
  • MA Degree in Special Education or related field (preferred)
  • Minimum 3 years of experience working with children with disabilities
  • Special education coaching experience with different stakeholder groups
  • Ability to work with technology
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Success in collaborating with peers, school staff and administrators.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Maintains valid certifications, fingerprint card and Appropriately Certified status. Observes teacher calendar and all Madison School District policies. Salary to be determined yearly according to Governing Board approved range.

EVALUATION

Performance will be evaluated by the Director for Student Services.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises classroom employees, students and volunteers.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write simple correspondence in English. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence in English. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to speak effectively with other employees and/or students in English.

Ability to present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, other employees and/or students in English. Ability to speak and present effectively before vendors, administration and staff. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of administrators, managers, employees, clients, customers, and/or the general public. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Ability to effectively present information to administrators, top management, public groups/community, and Governing Board.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply simple understanding to carry out detailed but basic written and/or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a variety of concrete variables in standardized situations.
