The CE Childcare Associate I supports the instructional program in an assigned classroom, implementing programs for the personal and emotional growth of students, monitoring behaviors, and communicating observations to teachers, parents and administrators. This position reports to CE Childcare Associate V.
Essential Functions- Administer first aid to provide immediate care for ill, medically fragile or injured children.
- Assist students with personal care needs such as diapering, toilet training and feeding.
- Support the site manager with age‑appropriate activities (games, art, music, science, language, nutrition, playground, hand‑washing, etc.) to reinforce learning concepts.
- Communicate with internal staff to convey or receive information required for job functions.
- Complete a minimum of 18 verifiable hours of approved training annually to meet Department of Health Services regulations.
- Distribute instructional or play materials to provide required supplies.
- Establish positive relationships to build student confidence and self‑esteem.
- Implement instructional programs and lesson plans under the supervision of the site manager.
- Maintain classroom equipment, work area and files to ensure availability and safety.
- Maintain acceptable behavior standards consistent with district policies.
- Monitor students in various settings (snack time, games, playground, quiet time, field trips, classroom, homework) for safety and positivity.
- Organize age‑appropriate indoor and outdoor activities to engage students.
- Prepare nutritional snacks, lunches and bottles following guidelines.
- Provide ongoing feedback to supervisor, teacher and parents about students’ progress.
- Transfer children to and from parents or designees, ensuring safety.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- Skills:
prepare and maintain accurate records; upgrade skills as required. - Knowledge: basic math, reading and following instructions, understanding multi‑step written and oral instructions, child development stages, motivation and control methods, awareness of counseling codes, regulations and laws.
- Abilities: schedule activities, gather and collate data, use basic equipment, work with diverse individuals, problem‑solve, communicate with varied backgrounds, maintain confidentiality, adapt to changing priorities, work as part of a team.
Work with immediate supervision; lead, guide and coordinate others; utilize resources from other work units as needed.
Work EnvironmentPhysical demands include occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling and fine finger dexterity. The job requires no sitting or walking and is performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury or illness.
ExperienceJob‑related experience desired.
EducationHigh school diploma or equivalent.
