Job Title:

Librarian

Overview

The Librarian is responsible for coordination, planning, budget administration, and execution of library efforts at Carrington College. This position requires autonomy, strong organizational skills, and specialized knowledge of library processes across the institution. The incumbent collaborates with varied constituencies to ensure optimal delivery of library resources, including staff training and participation in governance and committees.

Compensation

The starting pay range for this position is $60,000–$80,200 annually.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements initiatives and action plans to increase and improve library and learning resources and services; evaluates effectiveness and revises as needed
  • Collaborates to oversee revisions to library policy for all stakeholders
  • Coordinates and supervises all aspects of the library budget and acquisitions process, including preparation of necessary forms, renewal of periodicals and other subscriptions, and communication with campuses and other Carrington personnel
  • Works with the Director of Instruction, Director of Finance, and other individuals to oversee purchase and renewal of all library materials
  • Acquires or enhances access to new/current resources to create a collection that supports the curriculum, including free and fee resources
  • Updates the library web page and the Start Your Research Here! page for students and faculty to support and encourage information literacy
  • Communicates vendor upgrades as needed
  • Schedules and chairs library committee meetings, and revises, updates, and enhances library guides for programs to help students access appropriate resources
  • Collects and summarizes library metrics on a monthly, quarterly, and yearly basis
  • Provides library orientation sessions as part of the onboarding process
  • Participates in program reviews to ensure library resources support the curriculum

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.

  • Education and Experience
    :
    Master’s degree in Library Science (MLS) from an ALA-accredited institution, or its equivalent, is required. A minimum of one year professional library experience is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of cataloguing rules and the Library of Congress classification system; ability to convert cataloguing into electronic records and familiarity with Lib Guides
  • Language

    Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general periodicals and technical procedures
  • Mathematical

    Skills:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide, and compute rate, ratio, and percent
  • Reasoning Ability:
    Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions, and handle concrete variables in standardized situations
  • Computer

    Skills:

    Working knowledge of a wide range of library/business software (word processing, spreadsheets, databases, presentation software)
  • Presentation

    Skills:

    Excellent group presentation skills to manage meetings, present library issues, and deliver lectures to diverse audiences
Physical Demands

The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear. They are frequently required to stand and walk, and occasionally to stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
