Purpose StatementThe job of Teacher - Special Education is to support the instructional process by developing students with special needs' success in academics, interpersonal skills, and daily living activities. Responsibilities include supervising students, developing lesson plans, delivering instruction, collaborating with staff and parents, and responding to inquiries.
Essential Functions- Administers assessments and develops individual learning plans.
- Provides first aid and care for medically fragile children.
- Communicates student progress to parents and guardians.
- Assesses student progress and collaborates with staff and community resources.
- Counsels students and demonstrates engaging pedagogical approaches.
- Differentiates classroom work and directs support staff.
- Instructs students and maintains records.
- Manages student behavior and monitors safety.
- Orders supplies, participates in meetings, and prepares documentation.
- Reports safety issues and responds to emergencies.
- Serves as case manager for IEPs and supports classroom teachers.
Minimum Qualifications
Skills include assessment, operating office software, and record keeping. Knowledge covers child development, behavioral strategies, and instructional methods. Ability to work with diverse individuals, handle data, and maintain confidentiality. Physical demands include lifting, standing, and walking.
Experience is desired. Education requires a Bachelor's degree. Certifications include Arizona Teaching Certificate, Core Content Area, SEI Endorsement, CPR, First Aid, and fingerprint clearance. Continuing education and district-sponsored training are required.
