Job Responsibilities- Provide instruction that integrates English as a second language with subject matter instruction, focusing on language fluency and academic content mastery.
- Advocate for the academic and personal/social needs of English Language Learners.
- Support classroom teachers in implementing ELL programming, best practices, and recommendations.
- Deliver intervention support during academic times (particularly Literacy and STEM) in K‑5 classrooms.
- Plan and collaborate with K‑5 teachers to design engaging instruction that leads to English language fluency in all content areas. Attend weekly planning sessions to develop lessons, projects, and expeditions, and suggest accommodations for identified and unidentified ELL students.
- Conduct, organize, and analyze ongoing assessments of student performance using multiple assessment tools, developing a process to assess ELLs’ academic progress.
- Identify students requiring English Language support and determine appropriate service levels.
- Assist in creating a successful learning environment for ELL students by facilitating clear planning, differentiated instruction, and classroom accommodations.
- Model best teaching practices to support teachers’ capacity in specialized instruction and differentiation for ELLs.
- Help develop curriculum that supports ESL learners and facilitates access to BASIS Ed’s world‑class education.
- Meet regularly with School Directors and other professionals to discuss student progress and ELL performance.
- Attend parent‑teacher conferences as needed in support of ELLs.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Structured English Immersion (SEI), Bilingual Education (BLE), or Structured English Immersion (ESL) endorsement.
- Subject‑matter postgraduate work (Master’s or Ph.D.) or a combination of a subject‑matter undergraduate degree with a Master’s in Education.
- Strong communication skills for teaching ideas, texts, and concepts with precision and confidence.
- High GPA in major, excellent recommendations, experience working with children (not necessarily in the classroom), and openness to innovative teaching ideas.
