Location: Roadrunner Campus - Discovery Program
Timesheet: $35.00/hour

Purpose StatementThe job of Teacher - Special Education involves supporting the instructional process by developing students with special needs' success in academics, interpersonal skills, and daily living activities. Responsibilities include supervising students, developing lesson plans, delivering instruction, collaborating with staff and parents, and responding to inquiries about student progress.
Essential Functions- Administers assessments to evaluate student competency and develop learning plans.
- Provides first aid and care to medically fragile children as needed.
- Communicates student progress to parents/guardians and collaborates on improvement strategies.
- Assesses student progress and provides feedback.
- Works with instructional staff, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes.
- Counsels students to improve performance and personal issues.
- Demonstrates engaging pedagogical approaches and differentiates instruction.
- Supervises and directs assistant teachers, volunteers, and paraprofessionals.
- Instructs students in academic and daily living skills.
- Maintains confidential records and files.
- Manages student behavior and monitors safety in various environments.
- Orders supplies and participates in meetings and teams.
- Prepares documentation of student progress and reports safety issues.
- Responds to emergencies and inquiries.
- Serves as case manager for special education students.
- Supports classroom teachers with curriculum and student plans.
Performs additional duties as assigned to ensure effective operation.
Job Requirements:Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Applying assessment tools, operating office equipment and software, maintaining records, understanding child development, behavioral strategies, and instruction methods. Ability to schedule activities, work with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, and adapt to changing priorities.
Responsibility: Works under limited supervision, directs small teams, and impacts organizational services.
Work Environment: Requires physical activity including lifting, standing, and movement, with exposure to minimal temperature variations and some risk.
Experience: Job-related experience preferred.
Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Certifications: Arizona Teaching Certificate, Core Content Area Certification, SEI Endorsement, CPR, First Aid, Fingerprint Clearance, CPI, and ability to obtain district training.
