Athletic Trainer / Fitness Instructor
Under the supervision of the principal and the athletic director, the assistant coach helps to coordinate and administrate the sport for which she/he is responsible within the guidelines, rules and regulations of the National Federation of High Schools, the Arizona Interscholastic Association, the Diocese of Phoenix, the school, the athletic department, and the specific sport. This is all done within the policies and procedures of the athletic department and the specific Conference in which the schoolparticipates.
The coach contributes to fostering the Catholic School culture by serving as a witness to students and to the community. By bearing witness to Christ, His Church and the teachings of our Catholic faith, the coach cooperates with Christ in the academic, spiritual, and social education of our high school students.
Obtains necessary certificates;participates in continual professional development;maintainsdetailed andaccuraterecords as required by the school. Serves as a mentor and campus minister to all students.
This position requires the ability to effectively communicate via phone and email; ensure that all duties are completed accurately and delivered with high quality and in a timely manner; flexibility, forward thinking and managing deadlines; willingness to seek the latest coaching practices and implement; and rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals and a wide degree of creativity and latitude are expected.
ESSENTIALJOB FUNCTIONS
- Instructsathletes in the fundamental skills,strategy and training necessary to achieve individual and team success while promoting the Pursuing Victory with Honor Program as well asmaintainingdiscipline, handling grievances, and working to increase morale and cooperation.
- Assistsin the overall functioning of the specificsports’program.
- Assists the Head Coach in assuring that the venue for her/his sport issafeand all equipment is within regulation, safe, properlymaintainedand inventoried.
- Assistsin the coordination of the supervision of student-athletes in her/hissport’sprogram in all areas of play, locker rooms, and any other venue used by the sport.
- Maintainsappropriateand open communication with faculty, staff, and parentsregardingthe sport for which she/he is responsible; helpsadvisestudent-athletes concerning academics in conjunction with appropriate faculty and staff;assistsin the process for college recruiting and scholarship applications in conjunction with the athletic director and guidance staff.
Performs other job-related tasksdeemednecessary or as requested by the principal or the athletic director.
