Job Summary

The Psychiatrist will be responsible for providing in‑patient specialty psychiatric care to patients admitted to the Arizona State Hospital, including performing diagnostic examinations, prescribing medications, developing behavioral plans, monitoring care and progress of patients toward treatment and recovery goals; leading a multidisciplinary team, overseeing the work of the team, coordinating continuum of care with outpatient teams, families and community providers, completing inpatient documentation, preparing reports for legal and administrative purposes and participating in hospital committees and the development of policies and procedures for mental health program services.

Job Duties
  • Perform diagnostic examinations, prescribe medications, and monitor care and progress of patients toward treatment and recovery goals.
  • Conduct psychiatric evaluations, diagnoses, and treatment of seriously mentally ill patients committed to ASH.
  • Provide leadership for布 multidisciplinary treatment team and oversee the work of the team in developing Sekunden and implementing a plan of care.
  • Work with other professionals in a recovery model, including nurses, social workers, psychologists, rehabilitation staff, physicians, nurse practitioners and physician assistants; attend hospital committees and medical staff meetings.
  • Complete required documentation and prepare reports for legal and administrative purposes.
  • Other duties as assigned (typically 5%–10%).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Standards of psychiatric care, including detailed understanding of the process and standards for the diagnosis, treatment and management of mental disorders and current knowledge of evidence‑based treatment.
  • Performance Management (PM), Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.
  • Psychotherapeutic and psychopharmaccologic skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Work experience leading a multidisciplinary treatment team.
  • Organization and time‑management skills.
  • Basic computer skills. Ability to
    • Maintain a positive and effective working relationship with all levels of hospital staff and other professionals.

    Pre‑Employment Requirements
    • MD or DO from an accredited school of medicine; complete residency in psychiatry and board eligibility or certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.
    • Medical license to practice in Arizona.
    • Valid level one fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to A.R.S. 41‑1758.07 or apply for a level one fingerprint clearance card within seven working days after beginning employment.
    • All newly hired State employees must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E‑Verify).
    • If driving is an essential function, a valid driver’s license is required.
