Senior Project Superintendent – The Weitz Company

Location:

Phoenix, AZ

The Weitz Company is looking for an experienced Project Superintendent to lead field operations on complex, large construction projects. The Senior Project Superintendent will establish a strong safety culture, manage schedule, budget, and staff, and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors. The role reports directly to the most senior Project Manager on the job.

Responsibilities
  • Act as the primary leader of subcontractors and field forces on a job site
  • Maintain project safety in accordance with the Company’s Safety Policy
  • Develop and update the project schedule, resource allocation, and work processes
  • Prepare two‑week look‑ahead schedules
  • Oversee daily construction activities ensuring work meets quality standards, project timelines, and budgets
  • Coordinate with subcontractors, manage their performance, and enforce contract and safety requirements
  • Conduct regular site inspections, identify and address quality issues, and ensure compliance with project specifications
  • Identify and resolve issues promptly to maintain project momentum and schedule
  • Update schedules using computerized scheduling software
  • Assist with buyout and selection of major subcontractors
  • Oversee all aspects of project execution, including schedules, budgets, and quality control
  • Supervise and coordinate field personnel, subcontractors, and construction activities
  • Implement and enforce strict safety protocols to ensure a safe work environment for all employees and subcontractors
  • Maintain strong communication with project managers, clients, and other stakeholders
  • Coordinate the work of subcontractors’ field forces
  • Communicate effectively with owners, designers, engineers, and the project team
  • Maintain accurate cost reports
  • Ensure all required paperwork is completed, accurate, and timely
  • Adhere to all company policies, standards, and procedures
  • Provide opportunities to help the team develop, learn, and grow
  • Foster positive relationships with internal and external parties
Qualifications
  • Experience:
    • 8+ years of Project Superintendent experience
    • Commercial construction experience with a general contractor is required
    • Experience leading, developing, and mentoring a team
    • Experience in senior living, student housing, hospitality, condominium, and/or other lived‑in product construction is desired
  • Skills:
    • Ability to read and interpret construction documents
    • Knowledge of construction methods and materials
    • Excellent project organizational skills
    • Strong leadership with a desire to teach, mentor, and develop a team
    • Business acumen and relationship‑building skills
    • Excellent verbal and written communication at all organizational levels
  • Technology:
    • Proficient with basic computer software including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
    • Ability to learn specific job‑related software upon hire
