Job Overview
This MEP Superintendent is responsible for the daily operation of a job site, including scheduling, production, and procurement of materials, manpower, and equipment. The role supervises all direct labor positions on the assigned project and manages any contracted work on the site to ensure successful project completion.
Responsibilities- Study specifications to plan procedures for construction based on start and completion times and staffing requirements for each phase.
- Interact with the Project Manager to determine the project schedule; develop and utilize "look ahead" schedules to assess progress and spot upcoming issues.
- Coordinate the pre‑construction meeting with the Project Manager prior to mobilization.
- Direct procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
- Ensure all parties involved with the project are informed of construction issues and progress, meeting with supervisory personnel, craft personnel, subcontractors, and clients as required.
- Work with supervisory personnel and labor representatives to resolve complaints and grievances within the project workforce.
- Confer with supervisory, engineering, inspector, and supplier personnel to resolve construction problems and improve construction methods.
- Inspect work in progress to ensure conformity with specifications and construction schedules.
- Manage the project based on progress reports, materials used, and costs; adjust work schedules accordingly (new construction superintendents only).
- Work with the Manager of Craft Resources to move personnel from project to project, minimize hiring and layoffs; manage crew mixes and work assignments to control labor costs; terminate company craft personnel not meeting company policies.
- Prepare the Project Management Plan in conjunction with the project manager.
- Ensure implementation of company policies such as safety and equal opportunity; maintain quality standards and housekeeping requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction‑related field or equivalent, with at least 5 years of commercial construction experience in a mission critical environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of construction processes.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel to and from the project site.
- Understanding of and ability to apply building codes and other design requirements; ability to read blueprints accurately.
- Good knowledge of subcontractor scopes of work and tolerances.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; basic Spanish preferred.
- Finish carpentry skills relevant to commercial interior work; ability to install finishes to specification.
- Administrative skills to monitor progress and coordination of work activities; keep others informed of progress and problems.
- Management skills to supervise subordinates and follow up on delegated assignments.
- Integrity and adherence to ethical standards in job‑related activities.
- Strong problem‑solving ability; ability to use relationships between data from different sources to formulate alternative solutions.
- Team player who works well with others and helps co‑workers, customers, and subcontractors achieve their goals.

- Basic office equipment operation (fax, copier, telephone); proficiency with spreadsheet and word‑processing software.
- Knowledge and use of CMiC preferred.
- Project experience with hospitals/medical facilities ($10 million+).
