Summary

The Accounting Manager reports directly to the Director of Finance and will conduct the day‑to‑day accounting activities of the organization. The Accounting Manager will supervise the Grants & Billing Specialist and the Accounting Associate ensuring team cohesion and the pursuit of excellence. The Accounting Manager will also create systems and processes to ensure a smooth month‑end close abiding by the cost center and funding source chart of accounts.

Essential

Functions
  • Ensure a complete and accurate month‑end close.
  • Conduct regular reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
  • Establish firm understanding of the cost center structure and conduct mini audits to ensure proper coding.
  • Allocate direct and indirect expenses as appropriate.
  • Prepare and post the payroll journal entry.
  • Timely amortize all prepaid expenses.
  • Prepare material accrual entries.
  • Review A/P & A/R (including cost‑reimbursement sources) workflow.
  • Prepare for annual independent audit and program audits from funding sources.
  • Assist the Director of Finance with required analyses.
  • Provide guidance to Grants & Billing Specialist and Accounting Associate in a collaborative manner.
  • Interface with Development Team regarding donor restriction and reconciling receipts.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science degree in accounting with at least 5 years of accounting experience in a non‑profit environment leading a small team.
  • Have a firm understanding of GAAP.
  • Familiarity with ‘best practices’ in a non‑profit environment funded through cost‑reimbursement.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office and Adobe (Acrobat Pro).
  • Familiarity with Quick Books Online ideal or any software with multiple segment reporting.
  • Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills, exercise sound judgment, and be teachable.
  • Ability to speak and write professionally with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Face challenges with calm determination.
  • A self‑starter requiring minimal supervision while simultaneously collaborating with team members.
  • Ability to handle sensitive material, maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.

Work Environment
  • Mobility sufficient to conduct regular duties within a normal office environment.
