THE POSITION:

The Assistant Accountant handles payroll, data entry, invoice processing, and general ledger maintenance. They also perform office duties and assist with audits. Ideal candidates have an associate’s degree, two years of experience, and proficiency in accounting software and Excel. Attention to detail, analytical skills, and good organizational and communication abilities are essential. Familiarity with construction accounting is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assist in processing payroll and handling related activities to ensure timely and accurate payments.
  • Input financial transactions into accounting software, ensuring all data is accurate and complete.
  • Process invoices, secure necessary approvals, and reconcile vendor statements and general ledger accounts. Prepare credit card reconciliation spreadsheets, process payments, and monitor outstanding balances.
  • Post journal entries and maintain the accuracy of the general ledger to ensure financial records are up-to-date.
  • Perform general office duties such as filing, scanning, and photocopying. Assist with audit preparation as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
  • 2+ years of accounting experience, preferably in the construction or related industry preferred
  • Basic understanding of accounts payable, reconciliations, and month-end close processes.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint, or similar) and familiarity with Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy and timeliness in processing financial transactions.
  • Analytical skills with the ability to monitor and improve basic financial metrics.
  • Effective problem-solving skills to resolve discrepancies efficiently.
  • Good organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with internal teams, vendors, and external partners.
  • Familiarity with construction accounting practices, including job costing and lien waiver processes, is a plus.

Pay ranges from $60,000 to $70,000 on a salary basis.
