The HUP recruitment team is seeking a part-time time Student Nurse to be a part of the growth and expansion of our organization.

8/9 City is our 36 bed Cardiology Progressive Care Unit. We commonly care for patients with CHF, Electrophysiology, adult Congenital Cardiac and Pulmonary Hypertension patients.

Additional Information:
Will work 4 weekend shifts within a 4-week schedule period (either night or day)

* This position is seeking  students currently in their Juniors transitioning  into their Senior year of Nursing School*
* Summary:

The purpose of this program is to prepare student nurses for the hospital environment prior to graduation. The student nurse will gain a baseline familiarity with basic patient care under the mentorship of a certified nursing assistant and clinical nurse. The program is designed in a way that students can gain valuable experience in a clinical environment in concurrence with their full-time nursing classes.

Students with this type of experience often display a greater understanding of the hospital environment, become a prospective Clinical Nurse 1 hire, and successfully transition into the role of a clinical nurse within Penn Medicine.

The Student Nurse works under the direction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and will assist in meeting the needs of the patient and the unit. Duties include, but are not limited to; assisting the nurse in monitoring VS and reporting any readings beyond the established parameters. Assisting with O2 therapy and reporting acute changes in ventilation and circulation. Promoting infection control and safety and maintaining a clean and safe work and patient environment.

Meeting patients' personal hygiene needs and assisting with ADLs. Monitoring Nutrition, Fluid Balance, and Elimination by maintaining accurate I&O and assisting with meals. Accurate data collection and clear documentation are essential on all patient records for any interventions performed. Promoting teamwork and positive morale and participating in achieving the unit's patient satisfaction goals.

Minimum Requirements:

The qualified candidate must have completed a minimum of 1 clinical nursing course in an accredited baccalaureate school of nursing and must have current CPR certification.

+ The Student Nurse/ Co-Op (Level
2) interacts with patients at the most intimate level and highest frequency.  As an integral member of the health care team, the Student Nurse/ Co-Op (Level
2) shows up and remains engaged in all aspects of the role, drive results with intention, partners with unwavering support, commit to every single moment and serve with compassion. While working under the direct supervision of the registered nurse, the Student Nurse/ Co-Op (Level
2)'s primary focus is to support and assist in the delivery of quality care to patients and families. Some of the major responsibilities include participation in RN/CNA hand-off communications and unit huddles, timely collection and reporting of patient data, demonstrating safety protocols and adherence to policies at all times, timely notification and escalation of data or clinical conditions, remaining alert and responsive to activities on the unit, and demonstrating a genuine care for the patient (paying a close attention to the basics), e.g., active listening, timely response, cultural sensitivity, individualized approach to care.

Responsibilities:

+ Demonstrates a genuine care for the patient, e.g., active listening and responding, gentle approach to providing care, knock then identify yourself before entering a patient's space,  provide timely information to patients in a caring manner ensure an individualized approach to care to include cultural sensitivities, anticipate patent needs based on dialogue and observation. Communicate with patients to ascertain feelings or need for assistance or social and emotional support.

Active participation in daily RN/CNA handoffs and unit huddles. Gather information from caregivers, nurses, or physicians about patient condition, treatment plans, or appropriate activities

Demonstrates flexibility/change in assignments based on patient acuity and unit needs

Demonstrates support of quality and safety measures in the work environment, e.g., demonstrated support of the unit's Quality Assessment Performance Improvement (QAPI) goals
