Summary:

The Manager of Patient Access, Admissions Registration & Patient Financial Services manages and coordinates the daily operations for the Patient Access Division of Admissions and Patient Financial Services at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. This includes registration and insurance clearance functions for Inpatient Admissions, Outpatient Perioperative (surgical), Outpatient Cardiology and Vascular, and Outpatient Pulmonary Services. The Manager of Patient Access directs and coordinates the activities of subordinate staff to provide excellent customer service and improve the quality of departmental operations.

This individual works closely with leadership to set goals, priorities, and performance standards and manages the financial services department in maintaining an effective billing system by ensuring accurate and timely input of patient demographic and insurance information. The Manager of Patient Access demonstrates a consistent standard of excellence to which departmental work is expected to conform. Performance has a direct impact on meeting Penn Medicine's Revenue Cycle Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and the Department's Press Ganey Registration Scores.

Responsibilities:
  • Manages all aspects of registration to promote complete, accurate and timely hospital billing-maximizing collectible and minimizing uncollectible accounts.
  • Produces reports and provides recommendations concerning improvement in access management to ensure patient information is complete and accurate for billing and clinical purposes.
  • Manages front-end processes, including point-of-service collections, medical necessity checks, patient check-in and registration, pre-authorization, insurance eligibility, and other tasks as assigned.
  • Addresses patient complaints in a timely and courteous manner
  • Administers competency assessments, staff orientations, ongoing education programs and development courses in all areas of responsibility
  • Provides feedback to staff, both within and outside of formal review processes.
  • Sets, monitors, and responds to financial, service, and quality standards for staff in all areas of responsibility
  • Performs regular audits to ensure registration quality.
  • Works with other service department leaders to identify and implement efficiencies, economies, and best practices
  • collaborates with all service departments to enhance communication and information-gathering activities.
  • Acts in accordance with the organization's mission and values while serving as a role model by complying with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices, as well as all relevant local, state, and federal laws
Credentials:
  • American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management
Education or Equivalent

Experience:
  • Associate of Arts or Science (Required)
  • Education Specialization:

    Business or related field Equivalent

    Experience:

    • And 5+ years Hospital Revenue Cycle Setting
