Position Overview
The Project Manager will lead multi disciplinary capital and maintenance projects across gas transmission, distribution, and plant facilities, with an emphasis on process and/or mechanical engineering. This role is responsible for taking projects from concept through design, permitting, construction, commissioning, and closeout while ensuring safety, regulatory compliance, schedule adherence, and cost control. The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical or process engineering foundation, experience in utility or industrial environments, and a track record of managing cross functional teams and external contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full project lifecycle for assigned capital and O&M projects, including scope development, feasibility studies, cost estimates, schedules, risk assessments, and execution plans.
- Lead and coordinate internal stakeholders (engineering, operations, maintenance, safety, environmental, procurement, finance) and external partners (consultants, contractors, vendors) to deliver projects safely, on time, and within budget.
- Oversee development and review of engineering designs, specifications, drawings, and technical documents for mechanical/process systems (e.g., pressure regulation, metering, compression, piping, and related equipment).
- Ensure projects comply with applicable codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., ASME, API, NFPA, OSHA, and relevant federal/state pipeline and utility regulations) as well as internal engineering and construction standards.
- Prepare and present business cases, funding requests, and project status reports to management, providing clear updates on scope, cost, schedule, risks, and mitigation plans.
- Develop and manage project budgets and schedules; track performance, analyze variances, and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Support development of bid documents, participate in contractor and vendor selection, and manage contracts, change orders, and invoice approvals.
- Coordinate field activities including site visits, constructability reviews, construction oversight, and support for commissioning and turnover to operations.
- Identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities in project execution, engineering standards, and asset reliability.
- Promote a strong safety culture by integrating safety into project planning and execution and ensuring adherence to all safety policies and procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in project engineering and/or project management in a gas utility, energy, petrochemical, or industrial environment.
- Solid understanding of process/mechanical systems such as piping, pressure vessels, combustion equipment, rotating equipment, and associated controls/instrumentation.
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, including budgeting, scheduling, and coordination of multi-disciplinary teams and contractors.
- Proficiency with standard engineering and project management tools (e.g., MS Project or equivalent scheduling software, MS Office; familiarity with CAD and plant design tools is a plus).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills with the ability to manage technical complexity and competing priorities.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing technical reports and presenting to leadership.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across departments and build strong working relationships with field personnel, engineers, and management.
- PMP certification or progress toward certification is preferred…
