Job Title: Culinary Instructor, Evening School (Youth Build Philly Flex)
Part-Time, 10 month

Hours of Operation:
The Youth Build Evening School Program (Youth Build Philly Flex) operates on an evening schedule designed for students who work during the day. This role is part-time and requires availability during evening instructional hours, typically 4:00 PM - 9:00 PM, along with occasional additional time for planning, professional development, and student events.
New Staff Orientation is held August 13, 2026 & August 14, 2026.
Youth Build Orientation (First Day of School) is August 24-27, 2026.
Who We Are:
Youth Build Philadelphia Charter School is a tuition free public charter high school serving young people ages 17-20 who have been pushed out of traditional schools. Our program supports students in earning a high school diploma while gaining career exposure, industry certifications, and postsecondary pathways. Youth Build operates within a restorative, community centered culture grounded in respect, excellence, and perseverance. The Evening School (Youth Build Philly Flex) is a new program designed for students who are working during the day and need a flexible pathway to earn their diploma and build a career path.
The Opportunity:
The Evening School Culinary Instructor prepares students for entry level employment in the food service industry while helping them build professional skills and career readiness. Students participate in hands-on culinary training, industry certification preparation, and real world learning experiences.
This role supports students who are balancing work and life responsibilities and requires strong relationship building, flexibility, and a commitment to helping students persist and graduate.

- Teaching, training, or coaching experience preferred
- Serv Safe certification or ability to obtain certification preferred
- Experience working with opportunity youth or alternative education settings
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent industry experience preferred
Prior to the start of the school year, the Evening School Culinary Instructor will participate in onboarding, orientation, and collaborative planning to prepare for the launch of the Evening School Program.
This includes:
- Participating in new staff orientation and professional development
- Collaborating with school leadership and colleagues to understand program structures, schedules, and student supports
- Engaging in curriculum planning and unit preparation prior to the start of instruction
- Preparing classroom systems, materials, and expectations for the start of the school year
- Plan and deliver hands on culinary instruction in a commercial kitchen setting
- Teach food safety, kitchen operations, and industry expectations
- Prepare students for Serv Safe Food Handler and Manager certifications
- Assess student skill development and provide frequent feedback
- Maintain kitchen safety, organization, and inventory systems
- Coordinate guest chefs, field experiences, and industry exposure opportunities
- Track student progress, give frequent actionable feedback to students and communicate student progress to the greater community through Power School
- Facilitate one section of independent study hall per day, providing a structured, supportive environment where students can focus on academic tasks, access guidance as needed, and develop effective study habits while ensuring a quiet and productive atmosphere
- Provide mentorship to a cohort of 4-5 students, offering consistent academic and personal support to help them stay on track toward meeting graduation requirements
