The Job

The Transitional Assistance Department is recruiting for Employment Services Specialists. This position works directly with program customers in the County's CalWORKS or Behavioral Health programs assessing employability, providing services needed to obtain employment, monitoring individual program compliance using an automated case management system to maintain customer records, facilitating workshops and developing jobs.

Some positions require bilingual fluency in Spanish and receive additional compensation. Bilingual applicants are encouraged to apply and must indicate their bilingual skills on the application. Bilingual applicants will be invited to a reading, writing and translating test if they meet the minimum requirements for the position.

Education: Thirty semester (45 quarter) units completed coursework in behavioral/social science, public/business administration or education. A list of completed coursework or legible copies of transcripts MUST be submitted with the application if the applicant does not possess a Bachelor's degree in one of the qualifying fields list above.
AND
Experience: One year of experience in a CalWORKS Employment Services, WIA, ROP or Department of Labor to Work Grant Services program performing outreach, intake, interviewing and/or referral work for customers.
Substitution: Applicants with at least 3 years of experience as an Employment Services Technician, or equivalent classification in a California Department of Social Services, may substitute their experience for a maximum of fifteen semester (23 quarter) units of the required education. Applicants with an acceptable combination of relevant education and qualifying work experience may be considered.

The Written Test: The written test will administered on July 10-14, 2008 and may consist of an evaluation of knowledge and skills in the following topics:

• Interviewing and Interpersonal Skills
• Self Management
• Employability Services
• Reading Comprehension and Attention to Detail
• Basic Computer Usage
