Overview

POSITION

PURPOSE:

As an Examiner, you will be conducting Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) in relation to their in-service injury claims. The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam.

Charting from home may be required for this position. Each examiner plays a vital role in the overall experience of the Veteran. By providing an exceptional experience during these examinations we aim to positively impact each Veteran.

These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial in the VA’s process for determining benefits Veterans can receive because of service-connected health issues. Our valuable clinical insights will play a significant role in facilitating access to treatment subspecialists, when necessary, which can create exceptional continuity of care for those who need it the most.

Responsibilities
  • Conduction of Comprehensive Medical Disability Examinations: perform thorough and focused medical evaluations of Veterans, including reviewing medical history, conducting physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. Ten percent travel is required to include other LSGS Clinics.
  • Review and Analyze Medical Records: assess medical records, diagnostic test results, and other pertinent documentation to gain understanding of the Veteran’s medical history and health condition.
  • Render Objective Medical Opinions: provide unbiased and evidence-based medical opinions regarding the extent of health issues and their impact on work and daily activities based on examination findings, diagnostic results, and medical record review.
  • Case Management: understand and work in the case management system, organize workload, submit examination findings, and correspond with the Quality Assurance Team.
  • Collaborate with Healthcare Professionals: coordinate with other healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts as needed to obtain additional medical information.
  • Document Examination Findings: accurately record findings in medical opinions and clear, concise reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations.
  • Interdepartmental

    Collaboration:

    partner with Loyal Source departments to gain support and use resources to complete tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Time Management and Scheduling: ensure timely submission and availability for all C&P exams.
  • Compliance and Quality: adhere to applicable laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations, ensuring accuracy, fairness, and quality.
  • QA

    Collaboration:

    work with the QA team to submit thorough and accurate examination findings.
  • VA Training and MDE Requirements: comply with VA training requirements and remain updated on all VA MDE program requirements.
  • Confidentiality and HIPAA: safeguard patient information and examination results, ensuring HIPAA compliance; annual assessment is required for HIPAA knowledge with consequences for non-compliance.
Qualifications
  • Education and Licensing:
    Graduate of a nursing program accredited by a recognized institution; valid and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license; not barred from practicing in any U.S. state, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory.
  • Experience:

    at least 1 year as a Nurse Practitioner; previous experience in medical disability examinations or related field preferred.
  • Certifications:

    Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required, including renewals.
  • Military

    Experience:

    previous military experience or familiarity with military or veteran communities preferred.
  • Training: specialized training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas is advantageous.
  • Clinical

    Skills:

    proficiency in comprehensive medical assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and forming evidence-based medical opinions.
  • Communication and Ethics: strong written and verbal communication, empathy, integrity, and fairness in evaluations.
