Job Purpose:Assist the Director of Nursing in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing day‑to‑day functions of the Nursing Department. Maintain quality clinical care for residents/patients in accordance with current rules, regulations, and guidelines that govern the facility.
Unit Supervision:Supervise weekend professional and non‑professional staff in the day‑to‑day delivery of Resident Care. Schedule job assignments and develop Nursing Unit priorities. May orient new staff, participate in recruitment and selection of nursing staff, communicate policies, assist and coach as needed. Monitor work assignments, provide feedback, evaluate performance and redirect and discipline as needed.
Nursing Care Function:Plan and deliver care to patients requiring long‑term or rehabilitative care. These duties are performed in compliance with federal, state and local regulations. Manage the facility unit through experienced leadership and communication with the Director of Nursing overseeing staff and patient care. Prepare and review medical records and nurses’ notes, assess residents to observe and evaluate their physical and emotional status, monitor resident activity, evaluate nursing care in accordance with professional standards, and provide nursing care according to physician’s orders, care plans, established standards and facility policies.
Coordinate and assist or prepare for new admissions, transfers, and discharge of residents. Transcribe physician’s telephone orders. Communicate with residents’ family members, other interdisciplinary team members and management regarding resident status.
Prepare and administer medications as ordered by the physician; in accordance with nursing standards and facility policies. Sign, date and perform all charting and record keeping in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Resident Rights:Ensure understanding of and compliance with all rules regarding Residents’ rights.
OtherJob Functions:
- Care Plans: Assist and participate in developing and implementing a written care plan for individual residents that addresses the needs of the resident.
- Staff Development: Participate in in‑service training, assist in implementing orientation programs and job skills training, maintain professional competence.
- Safety and Sanitation: Monitor environment and care practices of nursing personnel to ensure compliance of established safety, fire and disaster, infection control and ensure all other departmental policies and procedures are followed; and to ensure cleanliness and safety of work and treatment areas.
- Other Duties: Other duties as assigned.
Works in a climate‑controlled and well‑lighted environment. Works in an office and throughout the building daily. Category 1 risk of exposure to infectious diseases, but receives training in handwashing practices and universal precautions and has access to personal protective equipment if direct exposure is anticipated. Subject to interruptions, noise, and odors daily. Walking, reaching, climbing, bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures, ability to communicate with residents and employees, ability to understand and follow training, ability to instruct staff in service education, and the ability to remain calm under stress.
Qualifications:- Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) in good standing and currently licensed by the State. Must be CPR certified.
- Completion of secondary education or otherwise able to read and write in legible and understandable manner.
- Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents and families and work cooperatively with other associates.
- Proven results at a nursing leader.
- Minimum of 1 year nursing experience in a long‑term or acute‑care setting preferred. Supervisory experience or Charge Nurse experience preferred.
