Position: CNA-Certified Nurse Aide (long Term Care Facility)

Job Purpose: To provide non-professional direct resident care duties under the supervision of licensed nursing personnel, and to assist in maintaining a positive physical and psychosocial environment for the residents.

Essential

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Personal Care, Nursing Care, and Food Service Functions:

  • Assist residents with activities of daily living including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, changing of bed linens, and positioning in and out of bed, chair, etc.
  • Assist with resident recreation programs.
  • Prepare residents for meals and snacks, assist residents in eating where needed and record food intake.
  • Read and follow daily care plans; perform assigned restorative and rehabilitative procedures; report changes in resident condition to nurse in charge; document care provision on resident record/flow sheets as required and report accidents and incidents; and provide nursing functions as directed by supervisor.

Safety, Sanitation and Infection Control:

  • Understand and follow safety, sanitation and infection control policy and procedures, including proper hand washing, wearing masks and gloves, and promptly report any violations to supervisor.

In-service and Continuing

Education:

  • Attend orientation and in-service as required by the state.
  • Complete all required online education as deemed necessary by the state and the facility.

Resident Rights and Relationships:

  • Understand, comply with, and promote all rules regarding residents’ rights.
  • Promote positive relationships with residents, visitors and government regulators, presenting a professional appearance and attitude.
Other Job Functions

Support Function:

  • Assist in admission, transfer, and discharge of residents.

Staff Development:

  • Attend and participate in training, educational activities and staff meetings; assist with orientation and training of other staff.

Other Duties:

  • Other duties as assigned.
Physical and Sensory Requirements

Works in a climate-controlled and well-lit environment. Works in an office and throughout the building daily. Has Category 1 risk of exposure to infectious diseases, but receives training in handwashing practices and Universal Precautions and has access to personal protective equipment if direct exposure is anticipated. Is subject to interruptions, noise, and odors daily. Walking, reaching, climbing, bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pulling, ability to distinguish smells, tastes and temperatures, ability to communicate with residents and employees, ability to understand and follow training, ability to instruct staff in service education, and the ability to remain calm under stress.

Qualifications
  • Must be a Certified Nursing Aide in good standing with the State or must within four (4) months of employment have completed state required training and a competency evaluation program.
  • Must have ability to read, write and follow oral and written directions at a level necessary to accomplish the job.
  • Must be able to relate positively and favorably to residents and families and to work cooperatively with other associates.
  • Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance.
  • Must be capable of performing the Essential Job Functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation.
