Full‑Time EMT – Basic

Salary: $26,000.00 base plus $15,500.00 scheduled shift overtime for a total of $41,500.00 annually.

As a Full‑Time EMT – Basic at the City of Pharr, you will engage in daily EMS operations that are both challenging and rewarding. You will operate ambulance equipment and respond promptly to radio transmissions, ensuring swift action during emergencies. You will lead and coordinate a team of professionals as you evaluate patient conditions on‑site, perform preliminary differential diagnoses, stabilize patients, and provide immediate treatments as necessary.

Your expertise will be crucial in monitoring patient conditions during transport to the hospital.

Additionally, you will stabilize, immobilize, lift, and safely move victims from the scene of accidents or catastrophes, making a vital impact on their outcomes and exemplifying our commitment to customer‑centric care.

• Minimum of two years’ experience as an EMT‑Basic.
• Ability to obtain PHTLS certification within the first year.
• Current AHA Basic Life Support certification.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
• Knowledge of administrative and medical procedures.
• Strong communication skills for conveying critical information to colleagues and patients.
• Logical reasoning ability to identify strengths and weaknesses of various solutions when addressing emergencies.
• Active listening and understanding of spoken information.
• Capability to make sound decisions under duress and manage high‑stress situations with composure and confidence.

• Must have 2 years’ experience as an EMT‑Basic.
• Must have or the ability to obtain PHTLS within one year of hire date.
• Must have AHA Basic Life Support Certification.
• Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
• Knowledge of administrative and medical procedures.
• Skill to talk to others to convey information effectively.
• Skill to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
• Ability to listen and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

Must pass a thorough criminal background check due to the sensitivity of the information handled by this position.

Salary: $26,000 – $41,500 per year.
