The Retail Associate is responsible for ensuring our customers have a positive shopping experience. Associates make eye contact, smile, and greet all customers in a courteous and friendly manner, treat fellow associates with respect, efficiently follow all company best‑practice standards as outlined in all work centers, maintain a clean work area at all times, and ensure proper merchandise presentation. Associates may be requested to perform additional tasks in specific situations if doing so helps achieve our customer service and operational goals.
EssentialFunctions
- Prioritize safety in everything they do and report unsafe conditions or practices to store leadership.
- Maintain a high level of awareness on the sales floor to create a safe and secure shopping environment, keeping egress clear and reporting any hazards.
- Treat all customers and associates with respect and courtesy, greeting them with eye contact, a smile, and a friendly hello.
- Assist customers at the register, provide merchandise assistance, and answer questions politely and knowledgeably.
- Respond to customer service calls immediately and handle all customer issues courteously, calling store leadership when needed.
- Represent and support the Ross brand at all times.
- Perform cleaning tasks (sweeping, mopping, dusting, wiping counters and mirrors, replenishing restroom supplies, and disinfecting high‑touch areas).
- Maintain a professional appearance and adhere to the company’s dress code.
- Perform daily assigned sizing and recovery to keep the store neat, clean, and organized.
- Expedite new merchandise receipts to the sales floor, merchandizing per company best practice and monthly presentation guidelines.
- Understand the Loss Prevention program, the Shortage Highway, and merchandise protection standards.
- Demonstrate integrity and honesty, safeguarding confidential information, cash, credit card information, and merchandise.
- Follow all Mark‑Out‑of‑Stock policies and proper disposal procedures.
- Follow all cash, check, charge card, and refund transaction policies, maintaining accuracy and awareness when handling bankable tenders.
- Demonstrate a sense of urgency to efficiently perform their role, maximizing productivity by executing store best practices.

- Effectively communicate with customers, associates, and store leadership in a friendly, respectful, cooperative and pleasant manner.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations commonly used in retail environments.
- Use all store equipment, including PDTs, registers, and PCs.
- Stand, walk, and move around the store for up to 100% of working time.
- Regularly bend at the waist, squat, kneel, climb, carry, reach, and stoop.
- Occasionally push, pull and lift more than 25 pounds.
- Use janitorial equipment, rolling racks, ladders and other assigned supplies.
- Certain assignments may require additional qualifications and skills.
- Stockroom shifts:
Push, pull and lift more than 20 pounds regularly.
