The Interventional Radiology Technologist is responsible for all aspects of diagnostic and interventional procedures performed in the Specials Suite.
Key responsibilities include:
- Operates and positions the fluoroscopy and digital imaging efficiently and effectively, demonstrating ability to troubleshoot errors.
- Pan‑table to accurately visualize requested views.
- Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images and ensures proper film images.
- Provides patient care in coordination with team members, ensuring clear, effective communication regarding patient care.
- Demonstrates ability to recognize changes in inpatient physical and mental status, informing nurse/radiologist.
- Sets up the ultrasound unit for the radiologist to operate and sends placement images to PACS.
- Completes lab/micro orders for specimens collected in procedures and handles them according to policy.
- Assists in code, operates related non‑imaging equipment, and anticipates patient care needs of the nurse.
- Demonstrate safety skills when operating the power injector, adhering to set guidelines.
- Perform scrub role during invasive procedures, including competent assistance, anticipation of physician needs, sterile technique, management of procedure wires and catheters, and hemostasis.
- Label all fluids and medication as outlined in policy.
- Apply procedural pause on all exams; verify order matches and indicators for procedure are appropriate.
- Ensure medications, sharps, and contrast are handled securely and according to policy.
- Conduct fall assessment when acquiring patients from the room and returning patients to ED/ISS or post‑portable procedure.
- Apply radiation safety practices consistently and protect patients and staff from unnecessary exposure.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment; keep rooms and cabinets clutter free.
- Assist with recruitment, training, and providing performance feedback for team members.
