Job Summary

The Radiology Technologist will operate radiographic equipment to produce radiographs and CT scans of the body for diagnostic purposes, as directed by the ER Physician in accordance with Radiologist protocols. The technologist will be proficient in positioning patients and examination tables to obtain optimum views of the requested body area, and will practice radiation safety techniques with the ALARA principle in mind.

Responsibilities include administering and consenting for contrast, filling out appropriate paperwork, and ensuring proper documentation. The primary goal is to ensure patient safety and satisfaction while acquiring diagnostic-quality images.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Maintain awareness of all departmental and operational policies.
  • Assist in the maintenance of department equipment, including cleaning and QA procedures.
  • Explain to patients the benefits and risks of procedures and exams.
  • Prepare patients for examination, including contrast, IV placement, and lab checks.
  • Facilitate departmental operations through completion of contrast, extravasation, pregnancy, and other pre‑exam forms.
  • Maintain safety precautions to minimize radiation exposure.
  • Keep current knowledge of diagnostic radiology and CT procedures.
  • Apply basic knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and radiological equipment for image quality and troubleshooting.
  • Use all available radiological/lab equipment in the ER.
  • Utilize proper body mechanics when moving or lifting patients and equipment.
  • Apply radiation safety principles during positioning responsibilities.
  • Recognize personal limitations and seek guidance when needed.
  • Communicate problems or concerns regarding departmental activities to appropriate personnel.
  • Provide safe transportation of patients to and from the patient care unit.
Qualifications
  • Education and Experience: Graduate of an accredited radiologic technology program; at least 1 year of radiologic/CT experience.
  • Language, Math, Reasoning: Ability to read simple instructions, write basic correspondence, present information in one‑on‑one or small group settings, perform basic arithmetic, compute rate and ratio, and apply common sense to written, oral, or diagram instructions.
  • Certificates/Licenses: Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists; current state licensure; current BCLS certification. Texas requirements: ARRT (R) (CT) and TDH/TMB;
    Colorado and Rhode Island requirements: ARRT (R) (CT).
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: None.
