Superintendent of Schools
DescriptionThe Director of Teaching & Learning is responsible for directing the school district’s curriculum and staff development programming.
Essential Job FunctionsDirects District’s Curriculum
- Coordinates and develops implementation of all district curricula including resources and training.
- Oversees the curriculum review cycle and communicates with stakeholders throughout the process.
- Serves as the district administrator for preschool programming including licensing and programming oversight.
- Serves as the chairperson of the District Teaching and Learning Council and facilitates the annual revision of the District School Improvement Plan utilizing the MiCIP platform.
- Writes, coordinates, and administers federal, state, and other grant proposals for the school district, in conjunction with the Business Office.
- Works with the technology department to organize and maintain the district’s data collection of student test scores.
- Develops, maintains and trains staff to effectively utilize the district’s body of evidence data collection system.
- Develops yearly district and building AER letters.
- Assists in the credential check and hiring of new staff.
- Assists in the creation of new district positions.
- Develops and maintains community partnerships.
- Creates all assessment and important instructional date calendars.
- Collaboratively develops all administration meeting agendas.
- Acts as district testing coordinator for all state and district high stakes testing.
Directs Staff Development Program
- Implements and maintains professional development of the teacher evaluation system including the maintenance of PIVOT accounts and communication to staff.
- Develops and coordinates all district professional development including developing the district SCECH plan.
- Supervises and coordinates the district’s mentorship program for new staff members.
- Trains and assists staff in interpreting and using data appropriately to improve student achievement.
Leadership, Collaboration, and Capacity Building
- Exemplifies the highest levels of professional ethics, integrity, and trust.
- Provide expertise on staffing, curriculum, facilities, finance, and legal issues for district programming.
- Maintains an active role in professional organizations and activities to keep abreast of best practice educational developments and research.
- Coordinate with the Director of Special Education and building principals to ensure coordination of general education and special education services and tiered non‑instructional supports.
- Foster an environment to successfully build teams, solve problems, and mediate disputes among stakeholders.
- Collaborates with District Administrators to maintain an accurate and appropriate budget.
- Serves as Coordinator when formal complaints are made regarding provisions of Title VI, Title IX and Title II.
- Provide reports to the School Board and Superintendent as requested.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Collaborates through a shared leadership model with PLC leaders and department chairs.
Staff Evaluation and Programming
- Evaluates all coordinators, instructional coaches, district registrar and HR Specialist.
- Oversees all Title 1, Title II, Title III, Title VI and Tiered academic support programs.
- Oversees the district Therapy Dog program.
- Oversees district elementary Student Support Specialist program.
