- Employment Type: Travel Contract (Travel RN)
- Duration: 13 weeks (March 23, 2026 – June 20, 2026)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Shift: 12-hour nights
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Intermediate Care / Stepdown — 29 beds (expandable to 37)
- Patient Ratios: 1:3-5 (subject to change based on staffing)
- Support Staff: Patient Care Techs (PCTs) and Health Unit Coordinators (HUCs)
- Equipment: Telemetry monitors, wound vac, warming blankets, IV pumps, PCA pumps
- Patient Population: CKD, diabetes (DM), CHF, UTI, GI bleeds, respiratory failure/COPD/pneumonia, sepsis, multi?system illness
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $2020 - $2130 per week
- Current RN license in Virginia or a valid multistate compact RN license (required)
- BLS and ACLS certifications (required)
- Minimum 2 years recent PCU / Stepdown / Telemetry RN experience (required)
- Travel nursing experience preferred (travel RN experience)
- Advanced cardiac rhythm interpretation and familiarity with cardiac drips preferred (telemetry nurse skills)
- Proficient in clinical assessment, documentation (EMR), medication administration, IV therapy, wound care, NG tube management, oxygen therapy
- Strong critical thinking, time management, communication skills, and ability to recognize early signs of deterioration
- Dysrhythmia exam required (study guide available)
- Must reside at least 50 miles from facility (travel nurse eligibility)
- Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments; analyze data and develop individualized care plans for PCU/stepdown patients
- Provide safe medication administration, IV therapy, and PCA management
- Monitor telemetry and interpret cardiac rhythms; manage patients on cardiac drips as indicated
- Serve as the point of contact for care coordination across hospital departments and interdisciplinary teams
- Act as a patient safety advocate and participate in quality improvement initiatives
- Manage complex patients including multi-system organ failure and multi-system trauma
- Float to other medical-surgical/telemetry units as needed
- Use clinical judgment to respond to rapidly changing patient conditions and escalate appropriately
- Provide education to patients and families and uphold patient privacy and professional standards
- Perform advanced procedures when credentialed: hemodynamic monitoring, transvenous pacing, conscious sedation support, advanced respiratory modalities
- Hands-on experience in a busy PCU/stepdown/telemetry unit — ideal for experienced PCU RNs and telemetry nurses
