Summary
Petersburg National Battlefield sits across 2,700 acres in Petersburg, Dinwiddie County, Prince George County, and the City of Hopewell, Virginia. It preserves several Civil War-era battlefields, earthworks, and historic buildings. The park offers many trails through forests and open fields. Petersburg is located 25 miles south of Richmond, Virginia, along major interstates.
Duties- Vegetation upkeep of grounds including lawns, battlefields, earthworks, and cemeteries

- Assisting with historic preservation, storm clean up, and park events
Works from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms on surfaces to be coated or parts of systems that are hard to reach. Requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.
Working ConditionsWork is performed inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present. Also required to work in inclement weather and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
Requirements- U.S. Citizenship required.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old or at least 16 years old and:
Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school;
Have completed a formal vocational training program;
Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education;
Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time).
If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
SCREEN OUT:
Perform simple and routine work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades. Use simple measures and hand tools to replace broken planks on picnic tables; broken windows using precut stock;
minor adjustments or replaces hinges, latches, and catches. Use a brush and roller on projects where appearances are not critical such as staining picnic tables and trash barrels. Tighten or replace plumbing fittings and fixtures which do not require custom fitting or solder joints; replace faucet washers; unplug drains using a plunger; replace liquid petroleum gas bottles. Perform routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to re-grade and reset barriers to restore areas to original appearances.
Operate a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites. Clean and service chemical toilets, restrooms, and other campground or visitor facilities. Operate a forklift to load and unload supplies and light equipment not requiring special rigging. Work is under close supervision and refer unusual problems to the supervisor or a higher graded employee.
