Note: This is an hourly/wage position and is not eligible for benefits.
Duties- Central State Hospital (CSH) is a 277 bed Joint Commission accredited psychiatric inpatient facility located in Petersburg, Virginia. CSH provides psychiatric care and supports recovery-focused treatment modalities as described in the responsibilities below.
- Provide psychiatric care to individuals admitted to the hospital when requested by the Chief Medical Officer or designee.
- Provide psychiatric treatment in accordance with the standard of care and collaborate with the assigned Primary Care Provider.
- Secure and document informed consent for treatment from the patient or authorized representative, or obtain judicial authorization for treatment in a timely manner when indicated.
- Regularly assess and address medication side-effects, report adverse drug reactions, monitor patient progress, and revise treatment plans as needed to progress toward discharge status.
- Attend all mandated training sessions and complete required competencies, including continuing medical education requirements, before due date.
- Read monthly General Body Medical Staff meeting minutes to stay informed about policy and procedural changes affecting care.
- Respond to communications from the Medical Affairs office in a timely manner.
- Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy degree and completion of an accredited/approved psychiatry residency training program (Required)
- Virginia State Medical License (Required)
- Board Certified / Board Eligible Psychiatrist (Required)
- DEA Registration (Required)
- Must possess good evaluation/examination, documentation and diagnostic skills for the treatment and management of mental and medical illnesses.
- Must have basic knowledge of current psychiatric or medical treatment modalities.
- Must possess effective communication skills, both oral and written.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and have the ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.
