About the Role

The Research Governance Coordinator is a predominantly in‑office role located within the Windsor Research Unit at Fulbourn Hospital. The position requires 30 hours per week, spread over 4‑5 days (Monday‑Friday). The Coordinator leads a portfolio of studies across a range of specialties, providing consistent and competent expertise to researchers, clinicians and the research delivery team.

The role involves establishing and maintaining a comprehensive managerial and administrative system for the running of research projects, ensuring full compliance with the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care Research, the Human Tissue Act, the Data Protection Act, and other applicable regulatory and government legislation and guidance.

• Review budgets and contracts for commercial and non‑commercial research studies; ensure that projects are risk‑assessed before commencement and audited.
• Monitor studies undertaken at the Trust, confirming that researchers fully comply with legislation, policies, and guidance.
• Support the R&D Project Lead in reviewing applications for research sponsorship and for the Trust’s participation as a site, identifying inconsistencies or unclear elements, and communicating required changes or additional information to researchers. This includes negotiating costings and contracts, particularly for commercial sector studies.
• Analyse research applications to determine project and Trust compliance with current legislation.
• Conduct full governance assessments for relevant research studies, verifying that staff are appropriately trained/qualified and facilities are suitable. This may involve visiting departments to ensure readiness for research commencement.
• Lead the amendments process, reviewing amendments to research studies and independently determining the impact on research governance.
• Provide training to researchers on the research sponsorship, approval/amendment process, application completion, and the requirements of the Research Governance Framework.
• Maintain and develop standard operating procedures, guidance and procedures for the work area, communicating any changes to those affected, including external researchers.
• Prepare regular reports and updates on CPFT R&D study activity and arising issues for reporting to CPFT strategy groups, NIHR and the Department of Health.
• Stay abreast of new legislation and government requirements related to the research passport process and Trust research activity reporting.
• Actively participate in relevant R&D meetings and committees as required.
