Head of Corporate & Commercial – Partner Level
Location: Peterborough
Position: Head of Department / Partner
Hours: Full-time (flexible or hybrid arrangements available)
An established regional law firm is seeking an experienced Corporate & Commercial Partner to lead and grow their department in the Peterborough office. This is a senior strategic role, best suited to an accomplished lawyer with strong technical ability, a proven track record in business development, and the ambition to drive a department forward.
The RoleAs Head of Corporate & Commercial, you will take responsibility for developing the team, managing key client relationships and overseeing a high-quality caseload. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious Partner or Senior Associate stepping into partnership to shape a department with full autonomy and genuine growth potential.
Key Responsibilities- Lead, develop and manage the Corporate & Commercial team.
- Handle a diverse caseload including:
- Share and asset sales and purchases
- Mergers, acquisitions, restructuring and corporate governance
- Shareholder agreements, partnership agreements and joint ventures
- Commercial contracts, terms & conditions, service agreements and supply agreements
- Business sales and purchases for SMEs and owner-managed businesses
- Provide commercial and strategic advice to established clients and growing businesses.
- Drive business development initiatives, expand relationships and generate new work.
- Mentor and supervise junior lawyers, ensuring high standards of work and compliance.
- Support the wider firm’s strategic goals and contribute to management-level decision-making.
- 8+ years’ PQE in corporate and/or commercial law.
- Strong technical background across company law, commercial contracts and transactional work.
- Proven business development capability and ability to attract and retain clients.
- Experience supervising or leading a legal team.
- Confident, commercially minded and committed to delivering an excellent client service.
- Ambition to lead and grow a reputable department within a supportive regional firm.
- Partner or Head of Department title, depending on experience.
