Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to work in the community CPFT Speech and Language Therapy Team. This post would suit a current Band 5 therapist who is dysphagia trained, and the candidate would be supported to develop into a Band 6 role. Development would include training in line management and supervision and LSVT.
The post holder will work in the Peterborough area alongside colleagues, providing input to patients with acquired communication and swallowing difficulties. The successful applicant will join a friendly, innovative team of therapists and clinical assistants. The team meet regularly for meetings and the post holder will receive regular line management and clinical supervision. Please note you will be required to travel independently around the county meeting strict time deadlines;
you will need a full UK driving licence and use of a vehicle.
- Independently assess, differentially diagnose and develop and implement specialist care programmes for patients with Speech, Language, voice and swallowing needs in the in-patient/day rehab/outpatient and domiciliary settings.
- Work effectively within the integrated care team structure and liaise with MDT members and other agencies.
- Ensure accurate and timely written records that comply with Trust policy and HCPC guidance, reporting issues as appropriate.
- Contribute to the prioritisation and triage of patients within clinical pathways.
- Provide specialist advice to MDT members, service users and others on changes to care plans and patient progress.
- Work with clinical assistants within the team, delegating work in line with clinical competencies and providing clinical supervision and support for assistants.
Essential
- Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy
- Postgraduate dysphagia training and fully independent in dysphagia management
- Registered member of HCPC
Desirable
- Evidence of successful completion of postgraduate short specialist courses
Essential
- Experience of working with adults with a wide range of acquired communication and swallowing disorders in an inpatient/outpatient setting
- Experience of working with a multi-disciplinary team
- Able to work independently with patients with dysphagia
- Experience of AAC – low and high tech
- Experience of working with patients with progressive neurological disorders
Desirable
- Experience of providing line management and clinical supervision to junior staff
- Experience of working with and supervising speech and language therapy assistants
- Understanding of the principles of the Mental Capacity Act
- Ability to travel independently around the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough area meeting required timescales. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
