Senior Financial Accountant

  • Location: Peterborough (hybrid - minimum one day per month onsite)
  • Duration: Permanent
  • Annual Salary £58,633 + £6,799 car allowance
  • Hours: Full time - Monday to Friday

An established organisation is seeking an experienced Senior Financial Accountant to play a key role in shaping financial policy, enhancing financial governance, and driving improvements across statutory reporting, tax compliance, and technical accounting.

This is a high-profile role at the centre of financial control and assurance, ideal for someone who enjoys leading on complex financial matters, improving processes, and influencing senior stakeholders.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead the production of accurate, timely statutory accounts to the highest standards.
  • Oversee tax compliance and ensure the organisation remains fully compliant and optimally positioned.
  • Drive improvements to financial systems, processes, and internal controls.
  • Maintain strong balance-sheet integrity through rigorous reconciliations and asset management.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders across the business to ensure high-quality financial data.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for external auditors and government bodies.
  • Provide expert advice on VAT, technical accounting, and regulatory compliance.
  • Manage and develop a small finance team, supporting capability and confidence.
  • Interpret regulatory changes and advise on financial implications.
  • Lead transformation projects that modernise and strengthen financial governance.

About You

  • ACA/ACCA/ICAEW qualified with strong post-qualification experience in financial accounting, statutory reporting, and audit.
  • Deep technical expertise across IFRS, FReM, Charities SORP, and UK tax legislation.
  • Proven experience leading complex audits and reporting cycles.
  • Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Confident communicator with the ability to influence senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
