Overview

Astute's Power Team is partnered with a market‑leading Energy company to recruit a Mechanical Technician for their gas‑fired power station in Peterborough.

Salary and Benefits

A starting basic salary of £48,000 – £53,000, plus overtime, bonus, private medical insurance and other excellent benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Carrying out fault diagnosis, repairs, planned and unplanned maintenance activities on all mechanical assets to maximise plant availability including gas turbine, valves, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics, etc.
  • Assisting during major maintenance periods, shutdowns, outages etc. when required to ensure maximum plant availability and efficiency.
  • Maintaining accurate maintenance records using the site's Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Supervising and directing on‑site contractors when required.
  • Working within the company health, safety and environmental processes and procedures at all times.
Professional Qualifications
  • Time‑served apprenticeship with an NVQ Level 3 qualification in a relevant discipline such as Mechanical Engineering.
  • A formal Health and Safety qualification such as IOSH is advantageous but not a necessity.
Personal Skills, Prior Experience and Knowledge
  • Excellent technical knowledge of mechanical equipment (gas turbines, pumps, valves, etc.).
  • Hands‑on maintenance experience gained in a heavy process environment such as power stations, chemical plants, refineries, steel works, etc.
  • Ex‑Royal/Merchant Navy Marine Engineers would be suitable.
  • Some experience with planning and scoping works with the ability to complete small projects.
  • Experience with CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems).
