Mechanical Project Engineer – Wastewater (UK wide)

Job OverviewJacobs is leading the biggest transformation programme in the UK Water sector. As an integral part of our UK team, you will help deliver high‑value, innovative and sustainable solutions that protect resources and strengthen resilience. From feasibility and planning to advanced design, construction, and commissioning, you will play a critical role in projects such as pumping stations, treatment plants and associated CAPEX assets.
Responsibilities- Deliver mechanical engineering design excellence for water and wastewater systems, including pumping stations, treatment plants, conveyance systems and related infrastructure.
- Innovate and add value through value‑engineering workshops, focusing on sustainable and reliable design solutions.
- Specify mechanical equipment such as pumps, blowers, screens, valves, chemical dosing plants and odour control systems.
- Develop feasibility studies, outline and detailed designs, and provide construction and commissioning support.
- Produce design layouts, technical specifications, datasheets and P&IDs for mechanical systems.
- Ensure compliance with UK water industry standards, health & safety and environmental regulations.
- Embed constructability and commissioning requirements into designs from the outset.
- Collaborate with civil, electrical and process engineers to deliver integrated solutions.
- Support or lead design management, scheduling, risk management, change control and financial forecasting.
- Conduct site surveys and liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers to ensure practical and efficient solutions.
- Foster a culture of knowledge sharing, innovation, mentoring and professional growth within the mechanical discipline.
- Working toward or holding chartered status (e.g., IMechE) or equivalent, depending on experience.
- Progressive experience in the delivery of detailed design and design‑build solutions for water, wastewater and bio‑resources projects.
- Sound understanding of mechanical engineering principles, project lifecycle management and mechanical equipment used in water/wastewater treatment.
- Familiarity with UK water sector regulations, health & safety and environmental standards.
- Robust knowledge of health, safety and welfare legislation and best practice promotion.
- Experience with design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, BIM).
