About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Site Manager to join our prestigious substation project in Peterborough .

This role is crucial in managing the delivery of a major infrastructure project while ensuring the highest standards of health, safety, and environmental compliance. As Site Manager, you will oversee daily operations, coordinate multiple teams, and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure successful project outcomes.

What you’ll be doing
  • Lead, manage, and motivate the on‑site team to deliver the project in line with client requirements, Balfour Beatty values and time frames.
  • Oversee subcontractors, ensuring work is completed to the highest standards, within scope, and on time.
  • Ensure team competency and empowerment to handle issues and raise risks effectively.
  • Develop people on site and own the site.
  • Implement and monitor safe systems of work, ensuring compliance with safety legislation and industry standards.
  • Conduct periodic Safety & Environmental Tours and Sensible Monitoring Tours to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Support accident/incident investigations and promote a proactive safety culture across the site.
  • Ensure work is executed "Right First Time", focusing on delivering high‑quality outcomes that meet both safety and client expectations.
  • Manage project records, reporting progress, risks and hazards as necessary. Plan ahead with the look‑ahead programme using APHEX software.
  • Prepare and review internal and external reports, liaising with stakeholders and supporting decision‑making processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, contribute to workshops on best practices, and ensure quality standards are maintained throughout the project.
  • Assist in risk/opportunity reviews and drive project success by supporting strategic goals and KPI achievements.
  • Incorporate sustainability goals into project planning and execution to ensure long‑term project viability and alignment with environmental and corporate sustainability targets.
Who we’re looking for

The following qualities/experience are essential:

  • Experience in implementing safe systems of work
  • Experience working on National Grid projects
  • Experience in managing risks and change processes
  • Good understanding of the standard forms of contracts
  • Proficient in commercial/project management communications
  • Able to communicate effectively both verbally and written with all levels of the organisation
  • Good interpersonal skills that enable working relationships to be developed at all levels across the business and be able to negotiate and influence
  • Able to undertake work in high‑pressure situations with a flexible attitude
  • A record of a solutions‑based approach to problem solving
  • Communicate and check understanding of daily briefings
  • Two‑way communication e.g. brief out weekly safety pack
  • Discuss ideas and plans competently
  • Communicate new concepts and ideas to non‑technical stakeholders
  • Effective personal and social skills
  • Awareness and promotion of the benefits of diversity and inclusion
  • Identify and drive personal development

The following qualities/experience are desirable:

  • Experience of working on a variety of project types
  • Proficient on O365
  • Holds a current driving licence
  • Holds CSCS and SSSTS or equivalent
