As the Emergency Department Technician at MCH, you will play a vital role in ensuring the efficient operation of our Emergency Department. Your commitment to detail, organization, and compassionate patient care will make a meaningful impact.
This position supports the clinical and operational functions of the department. Provides patient care within the scope of practice as defined by NH Board of Nursing and is under the supervision and direction of the RN. Assists in improvement of the patient flow process by triaging, assisting patients with ADL’s, transporting to ancillary departments and trained in performing EKG’s and phlebotomy.
- Demonstrates ability to work effectively as a multidisciplinary team member.
- Communicates in an effective and efficient manner with all documentation, and will all coworkers, patients, visitors and physicians.
- Recognizes and reports concerns to the Registered Nurse.
- Assists RN and physicians/advanced practitioners with examinations and treatments as requested.
- Performs and assists with technical skills as defined in scope of practice and as in services, including crutch adjustments, dressing changes, splint or cast application.
- Prepares equipment for procedures as directed.
- Adheres to hospital policy addressing standard precautions, safety regulations and guidelines.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide age appropriate care to the patients served.
- Assists patients from vehicles into wheelchair or gurney as needed and provides transportation to patients from the Emergency Department to other patient care units.
- Responds to patient and visitor questions and needs immediately and within established standards.
- Maintains patient comfort and privacy.
- Maintains and prepares rooms between patients and procedures; monitors stock and restocks supplies as needed.
- Participates in continuing education, department in service meetings and performance improvement activities.
- Maintains policies and procedures as established by the department.
- Assists in cost containment through the appropriate use and conservation of supplies and equipment.
- Enter and verifies orders in the computer system. Documents the time orders were placed in the computer on the ED record.
- Performs venipuncture to obtain venous specimens for diagnostic testing and delivers to the laboratory.
- Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to determine phlebotomy technique appropriate for the age and condition of the patient.
- Obtains EKGs as ordered, entering pertinent clinical history and data into the machine, positioning the patient properly and following established protocols to achieve test results of diagnostic quality and promptly share the EKG with physician and nurse when completed.
- Adheres to safety practices, reports accidents/hazards and maintains equipment as outlined in hospital policies.
Will cross train as unit coordinator
Competitive salary based on experience.
