Job Description – Executive Director

The Executive Director must lead with KSAC’s core values at the forefront of their decision-making and day-to-day practice. These values—Collaboration, Courageous Advocacy, and Self‑Knowledge—are central to our identity as an organization and to how we deliver meaningful, survivor‑centred services. This role requires modelling these principles across all levels of leadership and ensuring they are reflected in KSAC’s culture, programs, relationships, and systems.

Job

Purpose

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director is accountable for the successful leadership and management of Kawartha Sexual Assault Centre (KSAC). The Executive Director exercises authority within the parameters established by the Board and in alignment with KSAC’s strategic directions, mission, and core values.

Collaboration

We believe in our clients and support the choices they make along their healing journey with KSAC. We collaborate internally and externally to protect those choices and meet the needs of survivors.

We value teamwork, shared leadership, and the strength of collective action. Collaboration includes listening to and incorporating the voices of staff, survivors, community partners, and funders. We believe strong relationships are foundational to transformative change.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain effective partnerships with community organizations, funders, stakeholders, and local networks.
  • Foster strong working relationships with the Board, staff, and external partners.
  • Represent KSAC in community events and collaborations.
  • Participate in local, regional, and national committees aligned with KSAC’s mission.
  • Promote transparency and shared decision‑making with the Board, including agenda preparation and communication.
  • Encourage cross‑team collaboration and information sharing to strengthen organizational coherence.
Courageous Advocacy

We use our voices to speak truth, educate, and advocate for support for all survivors—and ultimately, the end of sexual violence.

Courageous advocacy means standing up for what’s right, even when it’s difficult. It includes challenging systems of oppression, confronting stigma, and influencing public policy. We believe in amplifying the voices of survivors and advocating for equitable resources and systemic change.

Key Responsibilities
  • Act as the public spokesperson for KSAC and manage media communications.
  • Advocate on behalf of KSAC at all levels, including government, funders, and the community.
  • Communicate with stakeholders to ensure awareness of KSAC’s work and to identify evolving needs.
  • Ensure that programs reflect the priorities of survivors and the broader community.
  • Provide leadership on public education, policy influence, and systems change initiatives.
  • Advance advocacy strategies that align with KSAC’s anti‑oppressive and feminist values.
Self‑Knowledge

We commit to reflection, growth, and believing in our strengths. We encourage resilience, confidence, and a culture of learning.

Self‑knowledge at KSAC includes self‑awareness, critical reflection, and the pursuit of personal and professional growth. It means knowing our limitations and strengths, and approaching leadership with humility and accountability. We encourage a culture of learning, feedback, and collective care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead strategic planning and operational direction aligned with KSAC’s mission and values.
  • Develop a positive, safe, and inclusive work environment rooted in trauma‑ and violence‑informed principles.
  • Provide supervision, coaching, and mentorship to leadership and staff teams.
  • Lead performance management, training, staff development, and succession planning initiatives to ensure organizational sustainability and leadership continuity.
  • Promote staff participation in agency policy development and evaluation.
  • Model and advance equity, diversity, and inclusion by engaging in ongoing self‑reflection, and by addressing systemic barriers within organizational practices and services.
  • Foster a reflective practice environment with opportunities for team debriefs, supervision, and learning.
Operational Oversight
