We are looking for a
New Graduate Systems Engineer for our Peterborough, Ontario site. This position supports the design, development, and delivery of safety and non-safety related systems and equipment used for the remote control of fuel handling systems, specialized tooling and process plant systems in the nuclear industry. Assist with the design activities for a project (or proposal) throughout its lifecycle for safety and non-safety related systems for specific application within the nuclear industry.

BWXT NEC's Fuel Handling and Engineered Solutions group is involved in the design, manufacture, development, testing, parts supply, and service of on-power refueling, reactor maintenance, and nuclear medicine delivery tooling sold around the world. We are the original designer of the automated systems that allow 24/7 on power refueling of CANDU reactors and aim to solve some of the Nuclear Industry’s most challenging problems.

Today, BWXT’s equipment is being used in most of the nuclear power plants in Canada and is critical to delivering carbon free energy production and lifesaving medical isotopes.

Reporting to the Systems Engineering Manager. Responsibilities of the engineer performing this role include supporting the technical direction for the overall project and supporting technical interfacing to both internal and external customers. The Systems Engineering department largely focuses on the overall integration and interfacing across our multi-disciplinary engineering groups including I&C, Software and Mechanical Engineering. The Systems Engineering group focuses on System Level design for various Fuel Handling sub-systems, tooling, medical isotope systems and remote delivery machines.

This includes but not limited to requirements management / traceability, process and component level failure modes and effects analysis, testing and commissioning planning and execution, SAT based training, as well as full understanding of the customer engineering change control (ECC) processes.

• Define and manage system-level design requirements with the use of formal management tools.
• Define and manage interfaces and scope between discipline specific design areas (mechanical, I&C and software).
• Prepare system-level design documentation.
• Construct process level and/or component level design Failure Modes & Effects Analysis (FMEA) in conjunction with the design team.
• Supporting project level testing and commissioning.
• Support project level deliverables including but not limited to evaluations, reports, and assessments.
