Supply Registered Early Childhood Educator

The Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington (PVNC) Catholic District School Board invites applications for the position of Supply Registered Early Childhood Educator.

What you’ll be doing

As an employee of the Board, you join a community dedicated to excellence in Catholic Education. You will work with families in communities including Bowmanville, Courtice, Newcastle, Cobourg, Grafton, Campbellford, Peterborough and Lindsay. Responsibilities include:

  • Work with the teacher to plan and implement the Kindergarten program and maintain a healthy physical, emotional, and social learning environment. Registered Early Childhood Educators work during the regular school day and may continue appropriate supervision and programming for students in an extended day program.
  • Support efforts to integrate faith in all areas of the curriculum, including the delivery of the Religion program, and participate in faith-based activities and liturgies.
  • Collaborate with teachers to observe, monitor, and assess the progress and development of children in Kindergarten and communicate with families.
  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate, student-interest-driven, play-based programming to reach the Four Frames of Learning:
    Belonging and Contributing;
    Self-Regulation and Well-Being;
    Demonstrating Literacy and Mathematics Behaviours; and Problem Solving and Innovating.
  • Assist children with independence in washroom routines, dressing, and lunchtime activities.
  • Guide students to be independent with toileting and assist when they experience issues.
  • Attend staff meetings, parent conferences, Welcome to Kindergarten Night and other professional development activities.
  • Administer medication in accordance with Board Policy and Administration Regulations (AP-HS-401).
  • Provide age-appropriate programming for groups of students as part of an extended day program, including:
    • Provision of supervision.
    • Providing direction to the assistant if present.
    • Maintaining a healthy and safe environment with diverse activities to engage students and build social competence, emotional maturity, literacy, numeracy and physical skills.
    • Maintaining all appropriate records for students (e.g., attendance, health issues).
    • Setting up the classroom (e.g., display, upkeep, organization of materials).
    • Maintaining a hygienic and safe environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.
What you’ll bring to this position

The following are minimum requirements of this position. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also apply.

  • OSSD plus Early Childhood Education Diploma, with a minimum of six months experience in an educational setting.
  • Proof of registration with the Ontario College of Early Childhood Educators.
  • Knowledge of the current Ministry of Education Kindergarten Program.
  • Excellent interpersonal qualities and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Experience planning and implementing developmentally appropriate programs.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of related legislation and pertinent Board policies and directives (e.g., Administration of Medication and/or Special Services).
  • Ability to perform physical duties such as lifting, carrying, and standing for extended periods.
  • Proven ability to handle difficult situations and take appropriate action in stressful or emergency situations.
