Mechanical Engineer, Manufacturing Engineer
Position Responsibilities
Design structural components, electro‑mechanical design, payload mechanical design, ground equipment mechanical design, launching systems, flight‑control actuators integration, thermal analysis, prototype hardware development, tooling & fixtures design.
- Use CAD tools (Solid Works), simulation tools (Solid Works Simulation, ANSYS) and rapid prototyping techniques (3D printing, etc.) to accomplish design work.
- Develop manufacturing drawings and bills of materials for components and assemblies using industry drafting standards; support design reviews; assist project managers in planning and scheduling engineering work; support manufacturing and suppliers with production of components and assemblies.
- Work on problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires consideration of a variety of factors.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering or equivalent education, training and experience.
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience designing complex mechanical systems with demonstrated transition to hardware.
- Experience designing machined parts, simple composite parts, plastic injection‑molded parts, sheet‑metal parts, wire assemblies, mechanical assemblies.
- Hands‑on building/prototyping experience in lightweight miniature robotic systems or similar.
- Experience designing electro‑mechanical systems with thermodynamic constraints.
- Competent with mechanical engineering process and design/analysis tools.
- Proven experience creating engineering drawings in compliance with ASME Y14.100, Y14.5 and related ASME Y14 series standards.
- Proficient in Solid Works and MS Office.
- Experience with Solid Works EPDM is preferred.
- Experience designing tooling or test equipment is preferred.
- Competency in solving basic structural dynamics problems.
- Understanding of engineering configuration management processes and material properties.
- Understanding of environmental testing, including shock and vibration.
- Ability to excel in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment; strong initiative; ownership of work products; commitment to learning and improvement; teamwork orientation.
- Able to take ownership and responsibility for current and past work products.
- Ability to work in an office and production environment (constant).
- Required to sit and stand for long periods; talk, hear and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard (frequent).
