Production Manager, Operations Manager
The Manager OP-Nutrition, LLC is responsible for overseeing daily operations of the feed mill to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective of high-quality integrated feed mill. This role manages personnel, equipment, inventory, quality control, and regulatory compliance while coordinating closely with nutritionists, veterinarians, and production teams to meet herd nutritional requirements.
Key Responsibilities Feed Mill Operations- Oversee daily feed manufacturing, batching, grinding, mixing, and delivery operations.
- Detailed reporting and presentation on mill activity monthly, quarterly and annually
- Monitor production schedules to meet farm demand and minimize downtime.
- Oversee all Toll Mill activity, quality, costs & audits.
- Ensure production schedules are met efficiently and cost-effectively.
- Investigate and resolve production issues, quality deviations, or customer complaints.
- Prepare production, inventory, and cost reports for management.
- Control operating costs and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Optimize efficiency, throughput, and cost control within the mill.
- Ensure feed formulations are produced accurately according to nutritionist specifications.
- Maintain consistent feed quality and compliance with nutritional specifications.
- Maintain strict quality assurance programs including ingredient verification, sequencing, and sampling.
- Implement and monitor quality assurance to ensure compliance with food/feed safety programs (FDA, HACCP, GMP, FSMA, etc.) and state regulations.
- Investigate and resolve production issues, quality deviations, and customer complaints.
- Enforce mill biosecurity and feed safety protocols.
- Evaluate and oversee a robust preventative maintenance program.
- Monitor equipment performance and develop a preventive maintenance schedule to prevent breakdowns.
- Oversee maintenance, repair, and calibration of mill equipment.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe working conditions.
- Oversee raw ingredient and finished feed inventory levels and storage conditions.
- Coordinate procurement and receiving of ingredients and supplies.
- Monitor ingredient usage and minimize shrink and waste.
- Work with staff to ensure quality and cost competitiveness.
- Supervise and evaluate mill management, mill and maintenance staff, and operators.
- Promote a culture of safety, accountability, continuous improvement and education.
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide coaching to improve management skills.
- Ensure compliance with environmental, health, and workplace safety regulations.
- Enforce safety standards and company policies.
- Conduct safety training and incident investigations.
- Maintain required records and documentation.
- Provide detailed reporting and presentations to management on mill activity monthly, quarterly and annually.
- Prepare production, inventory, performance, and cost reports for management.
- Communicate with nutritionists, swine production managers, and veterinarians.
- Participate in budgeting and operational planning.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Feed Science, Agriculture, or related field or equivalent experience
- 6+ years of feed mill or livestock feed manufacturing experience
- 4+ Knowledge of swine nutrition balancing and feed ingredients evaluation.
- 4+ years experience supervising employees.
- Strong understanding of feed safety and quality control
- Ability to lead teams and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Proficiency in production planning, inventory management, and reporting systems.
- Good communication and organizational skills
- Experience with automated feed mill systems
- Familiarity with FSMA Preventive Controls
- Mechanical aptitude and maintenance knowledge
- Understanding of swine performance metrics such as feed conversion, average daily gain
- Least-cost formulation experience
- Strong leadership and team management
