Salary: £45,000 – £75,100 + performance‑related bonus + shift allowance + a range of benefits.

Operations Trading supports our business by managing real‑time UK & Central Western Europe energy balances and market exposures from SSE's assets and customers. Our generation assets include Wind, Hydro, Pumped Storage, CCGT and BESS, and we are looking for a trader who can analyse the multitude of options available to these flexible assets and capture best value. This high‑profile role is central to the real‑time optimisation and dispatch of the SSE energy portfolio, looking to minimise risks and maximise value.

• Manage the dynamic short‑term energy portfolio for SSE, ensuring it is economically dispatched, scheduled and traded to satisfy legal, regulatory and market obligations, appraising commodities and reacting to changes while working with the wider operations trading team.
• Help deliver budgets while managing SSE and third‑party PPA assets and deciding appropriate trading strategies.
• Work with the team to continually evaluate changing energy markets and products that SSE’s assets can provide, reporting progress of key KPIs to the business units with full transparency and accuracy.
• Appraise, recommend and execute trading strategies for short‑term energy auctions, continuous energy markets, ancillary services and real‑time balancing mechanisms.
• Liaise with the IT development team to ensure systems can support participation in target services.

• Previous experience in a similar role, with commercial environment experience preferred but not essential.
• Skills in data analysis, problem solving and a strong team‑working attitude.
• Demonstrable knowledge of the GB and Ireland energy markets desirable, but training will be provided.
• A strong attention to detail, comfortable working with numbers and common software packages.
• Flexibility and drive to succeed in a fast‑paced operations environment, making valuable decisions under time restrictions and operational pressures.
